WREXHAM SECURED PROMOTION AT THE END OF LAST SEASON, BUT A NUMBER OF PLAYERS HAVE ALREADY SAID GOODBYE, WITH MORE SET TO FOLLOW AS THE CLUB AIMS TO COMPETE IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP 12:14, 22 May

2025 Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has issued a warning that further players may be shown the door as the club strives to compete in the Championship. The North Wales team have already bid

farewell to several squad members following their automatic promotion from League One last month. Seasoned forward Steven Fletcher, goalkeeper Mark Howard and local talent Jordan Davies were

among those permitted to depart after their contracts ended. Parkinson has now indicated that even players still under contract might be moved on to accommodate new arrivals. Shedding light

on potential departures, the ex-Bolton and Sunderland boss suggested that those who saw limited game time in the third tier might wish to explore opportunities elsewhere. "It goes

without saying that as the summer and pre-season progresses, there are players who will want a move themselves," Parkinson told The Leader. "As much as the lads love being at

Wrexham, there are players who haven't figured as much this season who will be thinking, 'For my own career, I need to get playing again'. Obviously, players are going to be

leaving because we need to make space to bring in additions to make us competitive." Parkinson is anticipated to receive substantial backing from Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob

McElhenney during the summer transfer window. High-profile players such as Fulham's Tom Cairney and Leicester's Jamie Vardy have been rumoured to be considering a switch to the

Racecourse Ground. With limited room in the squad, WalesOnline examines the players most likely to depart, including a club icon adored by the two Hollywood stars. Article continues below

JAKE BICKERSTAFF Forward Jake Bickerstaff spent the entirety of last season on loan at National League side Altrincham. The 23-year-old only managed to find the back of the net twice in 26

appearances and is unlikely to be part of Parkinson's plans for the upcoming season. WILL BOYLE Centre-half Will Boyle was brought in by Parkinson from Huddersfield in July 2023,

boasting a wealth of experience. However, he failed to make a single league appearance last term, featuring just three times in the EFL Trophy, and could be on his way out. LUKE BOLTON

Another player who has fallen off the radar at Wrexham is wing-back Luke Bolton. Signed from Salford at the close of the January transfer window in 2024, he didn't feature at all in the

league this season and could be looking for a new club in the summer. JACOB MENDY Jacob Mendy played a crucial role in the Wrexham team that secured promotion from the National League in

2022/23. However, the 28-year-old wing-back only made four league appearances last term and could be deemed surplus to requirements. GEORGE EVANS George Evans was anticipated to play a

significant role for Wrexham in League One after impressing in midfield during the previous season. Despite this, the former Milwall and Derby man ended up featuring on just seven occasions

in the third tier. Watch Welcome to Wrexham season 4 on Disney+ This article contains affiliate links, we will receive a commission on any sales we generate from it. Learn more from £4.99

make room. OLLIE PALMER Striker Ollie Palmer is a fan favourite at Wrexham, having contributed significantly to their three consecutive promotions with his goals. However, the Championship

might prove a bridge too far for the former Wimbledon forward, who found himself out of favour during the latter half of this season. The introduction of new signings Sam Smith and Jay

Rodriguez in January saw him relegated to the bench, sparking outrage from Palmer's father on social media. The 33-year-old is expected to be far down the pecking order next season, and

a return to the south is widely anticipated. PAUL MULLIN SIGN UP TO OUR NEWSLETTER! WREXHAM IS THE GAME IS GREAT NEW WAY TO GET TOP-CLASS COVERAGE Wrexham AFC is the arguably the

been instrumental for Wrexham, netting 110 times since his arrival in July 2021. Mullin is adored by both fans and owners alike, with Reynolds even giving him a cameo in last year's

Deadpool and Wolverine film. However, he found playing time hard to come by in League One following back surgery last summer and was also omitted from the squad post-January. The

Liverpudlian dismissed speculation of a rift with the manager but has been linked with a move to Wigan this summer. Reports indicate that Wrexham might even be willing to waive a fee to

facilitate his transfer.
