Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, also known as Hashimoto's disease is an auto-immune disorder, caused due to malfunctioning of the immune system. The immune system produces antibodies that

damage the thyroid gland due to which it fails to produce enough thyroid hormones required by the body. It is the most common cause of hypothyroidism or underactive thyroid. A thyroid gland

is a butterfly-shaped organ present in front of the neck. It is responsible for making hormones that control metabolism and plays a crucial role in the development of the human body. The

condition is most common in middle-aged women but can be diagnosed in men and women of any age and children. The exact reason that leads to the immune system to produce antibodies is not

known, but it is believed that excessive iodine intake, exposure to radiation and the individual's genes might have some role to play. The symptoms of the disease are common to that of

hypothyroidism. There is no treatment available to cure this auto-immune condition. Doctors generally prescribe synthetic thyroid hormones, which is generally prescribed to patients

suffering from hypothyroidism. If left untreated, Hashimoto's Thyroiditis can lead to heart issues, goitre and myxedema. As per Holistic lifestyle coach Luke Coutinho, Hashimoto's

disease can be reversed by taking proper care of health and making some necessary lifestyle changes. He insisted on making these changes along with regular medication for a quick recovery.

"Hashimoto's Thyroiditis is reversible. All you need to do is address the root cause of it. Making positive lifestyle changes will balance your TPO (Thyroid peroxidase) and TSH

(Thyroid-stimulating hormone) level in the blood, and you might not even need to depend on medication after that," he asserted.
