In the second of our series of online events, we will focus on the effectiveness of equality mechanisms. We will explore international examples, such as Germany, where quotas are used to
ensure more disabled people find long-term employment, Sweden where, since the 1970s, they have been used to increase the number of elected women in politics, or Nepal, where the Government
is working to incorporate gender equality in all its development policies and programmes. We will discuss the challenges we face, whether that be the legal limitations of using mechanisms to
improve BAME representation or overcoming the negative perceptions of introducing such measures. The online event starts at 19:00, Thursday 23 July, and we will be joined by Ruth Maguire
MSP, Cllr Michelle Campbell, Humza Yousaf MSP, disability rights activist and journalist Michael McEwan and co-chair of the Aberdeen Independence Movement, Fatima Zahra Joji. The event will
be moderated by our BAME Convener, Cllr Graham Campbell. Please register here by 9AM, 23 July, and you will be emailed the Zoom link ahead of the event. We look forward to you joining the
discussion. _Jamie Szymkowiak, co-convener of the SNP Disabled Member’s Group and the Group’s NEC representative._
