pathways. The Icm/Dot system is required for intracellular growth and is present in all _Legionella_ species studied so far; however, with the exception of _L. pneumophila_, the secreted


effectors are mostly unknown. Burstein _et al_. sequenced and assembled the genomes of isolates from 38 different species and analysed them along three published genomes from _L.


pneumophila_, _Legionella longbeachae_ and _Legionella drancourtii_. To identify new effectors, the authors trained a machine-learning algorithm on proteins that were highly similar to known


_Legionella_ spp. effectors, taking into account features such as the Icm/Dot secretion signal or eukaryotic motifs. Using this algorithm, they identified 5,885 putative effectors; 2,170 of
