Victor Osorio considers himself more of a craftsman than an artist. Words are his tools, and he creates new worlds out of blank pieces of paper. Each story, with the characters he has
envisioned, the added twists and turns, and great lines of dialogue, excites him. For this writer, telling stories is simply amazing. Crafting these tales is exhilarating. Each new sentence
provides a learning experience for the author, and the feeling is replicated by his readers. Osorio is living his dream, and writing is his absolute passion. Despite an esteemed resume, the
highlight of Osorio’s career came from writing his celebrated children’s book _Cosas Que Nadie Sabe_ (translated in English to _Things Nobody Knows_). He spent years working on the book,
waiting for the illustrator to finish the pictures and polishing the short stories time and time again. After all the work was done, he worked on getting it published, and managed to do so
in three languages so far. The entire process took over seven years. “The children’s book was different to every other project I’ve ever worked on because early on I decided that I wanted
adults to enjoy it too. The book’s main audience is clearly children, but I really wanted to make it fun and entertaining for parents to read it to their kids. Creating something that is to
be enjoyed by two very different publics is very challenging, almost like a puzzle where every single piece needs to fit in two different pictures,” said Osorio. The writer more than rose to
the occasion. The book tells many short stories, with a unique synopsis: there are those who think that there are no more mysteries of secrets, that everything is discovered. But it’s not
true, the world is a huge place full of wonders and there are things no one knows. Osorio’s main inspiration for _Things Nobody Knows_ were ancient mythologies. He always loved how the
Greeks and Norse explain natural phenomena that their science couldn’t explain at the time. He decided to do a similar thing and make up imaginative and fun explanations for things like
rain, clouds, chameleons changing colors or eclipses. “It feels great knowing so many people love the book. Whenever you finish a project there’s usually a sense of accomplishment, but it
quickly turns into anxiety when you start thinking if people will like it or not. I write for people to read my stories and their reaction is very important to me. Knowing that a lot of
people, and most importantly a lot of kids, have enjoyed reading my book is fantastic and fuels my passion to keep writing,” said Osorio. The book has been extremely well-received by
audiences. With copies in Spanish and Catalan, published by Comanegra, and in German by Abac Books, the book has many positive online reviews and international fans. Joan Sala, the CEO of
Comanegra, says the book has touched readers of all ages. “Victor is a very talented and creative writer. He is very easy to work with and he compliments other people’s skills very nicely.
He has a very powerful imagination and knack to make entertaining content for children that can be enjoyed by adults just as much,” said Sala. These thoughts are echoed by Daniel Polo López,
the Editor at Albac Books. López believes adults enjoy _Things Nobody Knows _so much because “it highlights that dreamy way of thinking where everything is interesting, magical and funny.”
The initial thought process behind the book started ten years ago. Osorio met Illustrator Laia Amarita and was extremely impressed with her drawings. Having previously worked on the popular
children’s comic _Alienados _with _Dibus!_ magazine, Osorio thought the Amarita’s illustrations were suited for a story. However, he thought that instead of a comic, they told a full story,
and he came up with the idea for _Cosas Que Nadie Sabe_. Throughout the years of writing the book, Osorio spent a lot of time brainstorming short stories. He would sent them to the
illustrator whenever he had an idea, and together they decided what would work for the final draft. Amarita would then send a mock-up of the illustrations to Osorio, and he would make the
final changes. It was a true collaboration, where both had complete creative freedom. Osorio’s words allow readers to truly transport into Amarita’s drawings. Osorio wrote the stories
exactly how he wanted, and the result has been quite the success. The stories are short and to the point, which allowed the writer to focus on the most unique and humorous stories he could
come up with. “Inventing all those fantastical explanations was basically like creating my own home-brewed mythology using bits and pieces from other mythologies with a heavy dose of my own
imagination and creativity and that was simply awesome,” said Osorio. _Things Nobody Knows _may soon be released in English, so keep an eye out for it on Amazon and book stores near you.
Osorio is also in the process of writing another children’s book, so readers also have that to look forward to. We know we are. “Having a proper hardcover book that you can find in Amazon or
in the shelves of many bookstores with your name on it is a great feeling. A physical book that will be there forever. Eventually, when people read the book, I got a lot of praise from both
parents and their kids, they all loved it and even learned a few things here and there. That’s all you can ask for,” concluded Osorio.
