I get a big box of meat from chicking - and it's crunchy and juicy

If anybody has ever found themselves wishing that Leicester city centre had more fried chicken places, there's good news - ChicKing has recently opened on the corner of Granby Street

and Belvoir Street. Based in the former Belgian Chips building opposite Tesco, the takeaway offers lots of chicken options. There are wraps, buckets, burgers and all levels of spiciness

available. I went for an £8.79 meal with two chicken legs and three wings, along with a drink, chips, a hash brown, coleslaw and carrot cake for pudding. Seconds after I'd ordered an

apologetic text came from Deliveroo telling me ChicKing didn't have any carrot cake or hash browns but I re-ordered the rest and it got to me in 24 minutes. The whole meal came to

£12.96 with the Deliveroo fees. READ MORE: NEW FAST FOOD CHAIN COULD BE COMING TO LEICESTER CITY CENTRE All bundled together in a big box, it wasn't much to look at. I started with a

handful of chips, which were tasty and fairly indistinguishable from any other fries from anywhere else. I pulled out a big chunk of meat and got stuck in. There was a good crunch as I bit

through the coating, which was either panko crumbs or something similar, and into the juicy chicken inside. It was a nicely-seasoned bit of chicken and the box contained a lot of meat. But

the stand-out feature was the crispy coating. The flavour was nothing special but the dryness and crunchiness was really satisfying. It was a thick coating and the crumbs were the highlight

of the meal. The coleslaw, in a tiny pot, had a lot of flavour to it and went down easily, being shredded into tiny pieces. It wasn't as good as a pot of coleslaw from the supermarket

but it added a nice dimension to the meal. For the drink, I got a Tango Mango, which was just as pleasing to drink as it is to say. And I managed to finish off the whole meal in one sitting,

leaving me nicely stuffed. Compared to the big-name chicken places like Popeyes and KFC, it's almost as good and probably a little less expensive. I haven't tried every chicken

takeaway in Leicester - that would take a while - but I suspect ChicKing is probably one of the best. _ Our rating: 5/5_ _OFFICIAL FOOD HYGIENE RATING: 5/5_ _CHICKING DID NOT KNOW WE WOULD
