A psychological thriller that was slated by viewers before it was released has landed on Netflix's most-watched charts, with fans urging others to tune in. Bet, which dropped on the
streamer on May 15th, received backlash from fans of the popular manga it is based on. The ten-episode show is inspired by the Japanese Kakegurui manga series, written by Homura Kawamoto and
illustrated by Tōru Naomura. It is set at St. Dominic's private school, where gambling is a marker of social status. The school's hierarchy is shaken when transfer student Yumeko
(Miku Martineau) enrols, and challenges the entire student council with her gambling skills. Following the trailer's release last month, viewers flooded the streamer's YouTube
comments to voice their disapproval. Many shared concerns that this live-action adaptation would be tailored for European and American audiences, abandoning its Asian roots. "Tf?
Kakegurui didn't need a westernized adaptation," penned one. With another playfully chiming in: "Somebody arrest Netflix, they murdered Kakegurui." Despite the backlash,
the drama has raked in over 2.4 million views just this week, and sits in Netflix's most-watched charts in 32 countries. What's more, the thriller has impressively scored a 73
percent rating from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes, with some fans begging for a second season. "Saying I loved the show is a true understatement. I loved it and my boyfriend loved it,
genuinely a must-see! I am already eagerly waiting for Season 2," shared one reviewer. Another echoed the sentiment, raving: "Binged all episodes on day 1. Cannot wait for season
2," while a third agreed: "Excellent series hope there is a series 2." The same praise is spreading on X, formerly Twitter, where one user urged: "If you need something
to watch tonight, I recommend Bet on Netflix." Another confessed they were hooked, stating: "People complaining about the bet series on Netflix but I’m eating it up idc I get
entertained by anything." Meanwhile, a third viewer crowned the adaptation as "Netflix's best show right now". _BET IS STREAMING NOW ON NETFLIX._
