A decision on who will lead Leicester City in the Championship next season seems to be no nearer amid claims the club hierarchy have still not discussed the issue with incumbent Ruud van
Nistelrooy. In recent weeks, claims have emerged that City were about to dismiss the Dutchman, despite only appointing him last November on a two-and-a-half-year deal, and replace him with
sacked Southampton boss Russell Martin. However, it now seems they are cooling on that idea, something that will delight Foxes fans who were loud in their condemnation of a Martin
appointment. Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett has posted on X that van Nistelrooy is yet to sit down with club bosses to discuss his future, despite pleading for a quick decision to be made
on the issue in the aftermath of City’s relegation being confirmed on April 20. Dorsett expects the Manchester United legend to leave the club, but says he is now back in the Netherlands
with his family still uncertain about whether he will be kept on in the role or not. Furthermore, Dorsett claims the club have yet to begin “active talks” with possible managerial
replacements, despite reports claiming Martin was about to be appointed. He claims Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl and former Derby and Hull manager Liam Rosenior are also on the City
shortlist, together with Martin, even though appointing either of the first two could present the club with even more problems. Both Rohl and Rosenior would come with hefty compensation
payments for their current clubs, something the Foxes could do without as they prepare to be hit with a points deduction for alleged past player spending infringements while also trying to
ensure they are not in breach of financial fair play rules in the future. Speaking ahead of City's last match of the season, a loss at Bournemouth, van Nistelrooy referenced his
comments in the wake of the Liverpool defeat that sent the club back down to the Championship. “If you look at my job, I’m responsible for the good of the football club,” the Dutchman said.
“I emphasised it five weeks ago, that it could be an opportunity to start planning early, which I think would have been for the benefit of the football club. For me that’s the interest.
“It’s not about me and my future. It’s what is good for the football club. I always shared that with the board and the chairman. It’s up to them how they want to deal with it. “Then I will
focus because that is the job in the short term. They know how I see things, it’s up to them how they respond to that. “We’ll all find out, hopefully sooner than later. Not for me
personally, but it’s important for the club and the supporters. It needs to be clear what the strategy will be and the plans and how to attack next season. Obviously it’s a big one.” RVN -
