Ford Motor Co. said it was recalling 234,208 Econoline vans in North America to fix a defect in the anti-lock brake unit that could spark fires even when the vehicles were parked. The
electronic unit that controls the anti-lock brakes in the vehicles could electrically short out, sparking fires, according to Ford, which is notifying customers not to park the van inside an
enclosed structure because of the fire risk. Vehicles affected by the recall are from the 2003 and 2004 model years. Ford said that the problem did not affect the braking ability of the
vehicles and that no accidents or injuries had been linked to the recall. Shares of Dearborn, Mich.-based Ford fell 8 cents to $14.17 on the NYSE. MORE TO READ
