A sheriff’s detective in a gang division has been charged with filing false reports in 10 criminal cases, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office. Darrin Lee

Wilkinson, 38, surrendered to authorities Friday and was freed on his promise to appear for arraignment on June 21 in Los Angeles County Superior Court in Compton. Investigation in all of

the cases was completed in January, but none had been submitted to the district attorney’s office, spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons said. The 10 were among 74 of Wilkinson’s cases that a supervisor

examined, the district attorney’s office said. The Sheriff’s Department conducted its own investigation into Wilkinson, and then submitted the case to the district attorney’s office. If

convicted, he could be imprisoned for one to three years on each count. Wilkinson has been with the Sheriff’s Department for 14 years. As a detective with the Operation Safe Streets unit, he

investigated gang-related crimes. In January, he was selected to serve on a federal task force. MORE TO READ
