Residents of selected major streets in Garden Grove can get their homes painted for free, thanks to a new city program aimed at sprucing up neighborhoods and polishing the city’s image.
Residents qualify if they live on Magnolia, Brookhurst and Euclid streets, and on stretches of Chapman, Westminster and Trask avenues. All they have to do is select the color of the paint
and the city will do the rest, officials say. David Edgar, the city’s neighborhood improvement manager, said a chief aim of the “Neat Streets” program is to repair physical deterioration and
head off potential economic losses that heavy traffic poses to “family housing stock.” Along with the no-cost paint job, the program offers no-interest, five-year loans of up to $6,500 to
fix up the exteriors of homes. Loans of $10,000 at 3% and $25,000 loans at 5% are also available. The money to finance the program comes from the Redevelopment Agency, Edgar said. The
program will focus on Magnolia, Brookhurst and Euclid streets before shifting in June to neighborhoods along other busy streets, he said. But residents in undesignated areas can get similar
assistance if they show special needs. Families must meet income requirements to qualify. MORE TO READ
