Sopore, June 26: On International Day Against Drug Abuse and its trafficking, an awareness rally against drug abuse and illicit trafficking was carried out by the Chemist and Drug
Association Sopore along with the Pharmaceutical Association in collaboration with the Drug Controller Department Baramulla on Wednesday. The rally started from Sub District Hospital Sopore
and passed through main markets of town and culminated at Iqbal market near clock tower. Members of the Chemists and Drug Association Sopore, pharmaceutical association members, officials
from health Department, media persons and civil organisation members were part of the rally. The aim of the rally was to spread awareness among the common people about the harmful effects of
drugs and most importantly to bring awareness among the parents to have a close vigil of their children so that they do not fall prey to any untoward situation with regard to drug
addiction. Similarly, an awareness programme was conducted by Civil Society members of Sopore here at Dak Banglow. Speaking on the occasion Ashiq Hussain Zaki President Civil Society Sopore
said that drug addiction puts young abusers, mostly teenagers and adolescents at a greater risk. “The most effective prevention tactics are informative discussions about the effects and
consequences of drug abuse.” He emphasised that all the sections of society shall join hands to propagate the awareness regarding ill effects of drug abuse. While impressing upon all the
sections of society, Zaki said that the Police, administration and chemists and druggists fraternity should join their hands against this social evil so that “we can eradicate the drug
menace from the society.”
