The Salt Path, featuring Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs, is one of the latest films to hit UK cinemas. Released on 30 May in the UK, the film is based on the memoir by Raynor Winn, a
writer from Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. Raynor's tale is heart-wrenching. She and her husband Moth embarked on a 630-mile journey along the South West Coast Path in 2013 following
some distressing news. A financial dispute resulted in Raynor losing her dream home in Wales, just days after Moth was diagnosed with a rare brain disease, Corticobasal Degeneration. With
nothing left to lose, the couple set off on the challenging trek from Somerset to Dorset, via Devon and Cornwall, reports Cornwall Live. The South West Coast path is England's longest
national trail, spanning 630 miles. The walk is renowned for its cliffs, beaches and coastline. Five years post their walk, Raynor published her memoir, The Salt Path, in 2018. The book
documents the adventure she and Moth undertook, and their story of survival and resilience. The memoir was shortlisted for the 2018 Wainwright Prize and received nationwide praise upon its
release. Shortly after the book's publication, a producer approached Raynor about adapting it into a film. Filming commenced in 2023, with Gillian and Jason portraying Raynor and Moth.
The Salt Path, a powerful new film directed by Marianne Elliott and scripted by Rebecca Lenkiewicz, stars James Lance as Grant and Hermione Norris portraying Polly. June 2023 saw the cast
and crew shooting scenes in picturesque Chepstow, Monmouthshire and Aust, Gloucestershire, while also capturing the beauty of East Head in West Wittering. Raynor, who with her husband
continues vigorous fundraising for research into his illness, shared her impressions with the BBC: "The producer and director have created something that's sparse in dialogue.
"It's huge in emotion and it urges anyone to focus on the now. Just focus on now and all will turn out differently tomorrow." Reflecting on the film's emotional impact,
she confessed it had taken her "straight back to those emotions that were so difficult". _THE SALT PATH WAS RELEASED IN UK CINEMAS ON 30 MAY._
