A coin expert has highlighted a rare 50 pence piece from 2011 that could be worth a staggering £3,000 to collectors, with previous exchanges reaching up to £3,500. This coveted coin
celebrates the 2012 London Olympics with an "aquatics" design featuring a swimmer in goggles and cap. Despite millions being minted, an unusual feature in the early editions can
significantly increase its value. The TikTok account UK Coin Hunt's expert shared: "£3,000 for just this 50p, which is absolutely bonkers." He pointed out that the initial
version of the aquatics coin had water lines covering the swimmer's face, which were removed in later issues, making the lined version highly valuable. While it may be a rare discovery
in everyday change, there's still a possibility of finding one in circulation. "I would say you're not likely to find it in your change but there is always a chance that you
will see one on the internet and you can buy it but it'll cost a lot of money," he advised. "A couple of years ago they were only about £1,000 but now they're fetching
anywhere from like £2,500 to £3,500.", reports Hull Live. Currently, the Britannia Coin Company lists an uncirculated version of this coin for £3,995, noting its status as a
sought-after item among collectors and its rarity, designed by Jonathan Olliffe. "In the more common version of this BU 50p the face of the swimmer is clearly visible under the swimming
pool waters. In this rare variation watery lines appear across the swimmers goggle-wearing visage. Supposedly only 600 of these 'lines across the face' Aquatics 50ps were issued
before the design was changed making them the rarest base metal 50p ever released." FOR BREAKING NEWS IN YOUR AREA DIRECT TO YOUR INBOX EVERY DAY, GO HERE TO SIGN UP TO OUR FREE
