Edmen Shahbazyan knocked out Brad Tavares in the first round of their meeting at UFC 244 with one of the most spectacular knockouts you’re likely to see. The #13-ranked UFC middleweight
propelled himself into the big time at Madisn Square Garden with a destructive victory over Tavares. Shahbazyan, at just 21, looked composed as he took his time before unleashing a kick to
the head which wiped out the more experienced opponent. He has now entered the cage 11 times, winning by first round knockout in ten of those outings. Against Tavares, he produced what is
likely to be considered the best of the lot. Shahbazyan first dropped Tavares with a beautiful left-right combination, sending the 31-year-old crashing to the canvas. Despite recovering, he
was knocked out cold minutes later after exposing his chin whilst backed up on the cage. Shahbazyan feinted a jab before launching a left head-kick which he seemed to just flick at the head
of Tavares. It connected perfectly, and the referee immediately launched himself between the pair to ensure no further damage was done. What he did next was equally as impressive, however.
Despite producing the best win of his career to date, and propelling his name into the hierarchy of the sport, Shahbazyan was more focused on his opponent’s wellbeing. The youngster rushed
straight over to Tavares as he was slumped against the ropes to make sure he was okay, and was filmed talking to him and reassuring him. Fans are already dreaming of a potential megafight
down the line between himself and UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. That fight may take some time, however, as the organisation seems in no rush to push him in at the deep end
before he is ready. _EXPRESS SPORT'S LIVE COVERAGE OF UFC 244: MASVIDAL VS DIAZ WAS IN PART BROUGHT TO YOU BY POKERSTARS, THE OFFICIAL POKER PARTNER OF THE UFC. TO LEARN MORE ABOUT
