ABOUT Joanne Binette, MPA, is a senior research advisor with AARP Research, where she manages a multi-faceted portfolio of large projects accessing older adults' needs and concerns for


aging in place. These projects include public opinion polls, focus groups, conference papers, research syntheses, and internal and external research presentations.  Additionally, Binette


consults and advises AARP clients, partners, key stakeholders, and more than 700 communities on best research strategies to influence community, state, and national advocacy efforts on


livable communities, housing, older drivers, and community engagement. Binette develops research plans that include complex methodologies, design of data collection instruments, analysis of


data, and creation and publication of reports, briefings and presentations. Binette joined AARP in 1993. She left from 2000 to 2001 to work as a survey statistician for the U.S. Census


Bureau before rejoining AARP. During her time at the Census Bureau she specialized in analyzing disability data from the Decennial Census, American Community Survey and other large-scale


federally funded surveys. Binette created public release data products including statistical briefs and press releases. Binette has a master’s in public administration and a bachelor’s in
