A former Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer shot his ex-wife and himself early Saturday at a home east Davidson's Runnymede neighborhood. The two people are in serious condition at
Carolinas Medical Center. And Charlotte Mecklenburg Police are investigating the case, which they say involved a family dispute. The incident happened just after 2 a.m. at 19701 Callaway
Hills Lane, off Shearers Road in east Davidson. Davidson police also responded to the incident. CMPD is leading the investigation because the neighborhood is outside Davidson's town
limits. Just after 9 a.m., CMPD identified the victim as Erin Marie Cobb, 28. The man was identified as Jeremy A. Hester, 31, a former Metro Division officer with the police department. He
was hired on May 14, 2007, and resigned March 20, 2010 "to pursue other employment," CMPD said. Ms. Cobb was hospitalized in stable/critical condition this morning, after surgery.
Mr. Hester was hospitalized in critical condition. Here's more information from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department early this morning, and an update after 9 a.m.: Detectives
investigating a domestic violence related shooting in Davidson, NC Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Unit and ADW Unit are conducting an investigation into
a domestic violence related shooting at 19701 Callaway Hills Lane in Davidson, NC. The call for service was reported at 2:02 a.m., on Saturday, September 24, 2011. Officers with the
Davidson, NC, Police Department responded to an ADW-With Injury call and upon arrival encountered a male subject and a female subject in the front yard, both suffering from apparent gunshot
wounds. Based upon initial statements of witnesses at the scene, the male subject drove to his ex-wife's house on Callaway Hills Lane and they got into an argument inside the residence.
Witnesses state that moments after they went outside, multiple gunshots were fired. Based upon evidence gathered at the scene, the male shot his ex-wife in the neck and then turned the gun
upon himself, shooting himself in the head. Medic responded to the scene and transported both subjects to Carolinas Medical Center for treatment of their injuries. The victim is currently in
critical but stable condition and is out of surgery; the suspect is in critical condition. Once family members have been notified, the names of the victim and the suspect will be released.
