Huge new home bargains with its own garden centre and a bakery

UK retail giant Home Bargains is opening the doors to its brand new store in Wales this weekend. WalesOnline got a first look into the 26,318 square foot superstore that features a garden


centre, a café, and a bakery. The massive new store officially opens its doors to shoppers at 8am on May 31, and customers will be able to explore shelves full of garden plants, garden

started building the massive unit at Mendalgief Retail Park in Maesglas at the beginning of this year, with the project costing upwards of £6m. According to their planning application to


Newport City Council, the new site has created 90 new jobs and they are hiring now for full-time and part-time staff. Adverts are currently live for 'Team Leaders' which are


full-time roles earning £30,887 a year. They are also hiring for team members to work in the new café and bakery who will be earning between £12.21-£12.50 per hour. The superstore is located


on Docks Way, on the site that used to be home to a Lidl supermarket and a smaller Home Bargains store. These stores were demolished in May 2024 to make way for the bargain retailer's


new store, which will be the sixth site in Wales to feature a garden centre and a café, alongside their locations at Crosshands (Llanelli), Brynmawr, Cardiff Bay, Denbigh and Prestatyn. The


large car park at the front of the store will has 175 spaces, including ones designated for families and disabled people, as well as a bike shelter. Across from the brand new Home Bargains


site is the long-standing TK Maxx, Pets at Home and a popular local food business called The Protein Shed. The new Home Bargains will be open 8am to 8pm Monday to Saturday and between
