THERE WERE ANGRY SCENES DURING A BREAK IN THE ACTION AT THE STRASBOURG OPEN 10:55, 22 May 2025 A TV cameraman was accused of showing "wildly inappropriate behaviour" towards Emma
Raducanu during her defeat to Danielle Collins at the Strasbourg Open. Raducanu impressed as she won the first set against her American opponent on Wednesday, but began to struggle in the
second as Collins hit back in style and raced into a 5-0 set lead. The former British number one then called for a medical timeout after seemingly suffering a lower back issue and was
treated off court, before returning to action as her opponent wrapped up the second set. But as the match entered the deciding third set, a cameraman was accused of getting a little too
close to Raducanu and Collins as they felt the wrath of the American star during a change of ends. As Collins went to refill her bottle at the water fountain next to the umpire's chair,
she took the opportunity to berate the camera operator as she angrily accused them of getting in her way. "I need to get water," she said. "We're on a changeover.
'You don't need to be that close to me, and you don't need to be on top of Emma. It's wildly inappropriate." Collins was then heard telling Raducanu she was
"sorry" as she filled up her bottle, while the cameraman backed away from the two players, having been stood right next to the British player. After the match resumed, last
year's Miami Open champion Collins claimed the third and final set to triumph 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 and progress to the next round as Raducanu was eliminated. Speaking after the match, the
22-year-old British star gave her take on her opponent's run-in with the cameraman. "I was standing up because I didn't want to sit down in the third set because of my
back," she said. "I was standing as it was a bit more comfortable. "Then, [Collins] came to fill a bottle up and was saying how the cameraman was really close and it felt a
bit inappropriate. That's all she was saying." Meanwhile, the outspoken Collins stood by her words during her on-court interview following the match. "To be good at anything,
self-expression is really important," she said. "There aren't many successful people that feel like they can't be themselves. "I'm a competitor at the end of
the day. I'm not meek and mild." Article continues below The French Open is next up for Raducanu on Sunday, with the 2021 US Open winner taking a wildcard into the Strasbourg event
in a bid to get more practice on clay before the major gets under way.
