TONY RAN DOROTHY'S ON CAROLINE STREET FOR DECADES AND WAS WELL LOVED BY STAFF AND CUSTOMERS 11:47, 11 Jan 2025 Tony Barcoe, who ran Dorothy's chip shop on Caroline Street in
Cardiff for decades, has died aged 70. The much-loved Irishman became a fixture on one of Wales' best known streets which to many is fondly known as Chippy Alley or Chippy Lane. In 2007
Tony won a Guinness world record for the world's largest bag of chips when he got staff to work in relays to produce 392.5kg of chips - the equivalent of 3,500 portions. After the
final weight was verified, he said the attempt was "easy", adding: "You should see what we do on a Saturday night." Tony died on December 5 and his funeral will be held
at Thornhill Crematorium on Monday, January 13 at 11.30am. Paying tribute to Tony his family said he was a "loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, partner and friend".
Article continues below Dorothy’s opened in 1954 and is believed to be Cardiff city centre’s oldest resident takeaway. It remains a loved part of Cardiff life and still has a healthy rivalry
with neighbouring chippy Tony's.
