Mr. Drexel is currently appointed to serve as Interim Medical Center Director of the VA Washington DC health care system George B. Drexel IV, MBA, is the Executive Director of the Beckley VA


Medical Center, caring for Veteran across southern West Virginia, and was appointed in June 2024. He is currently serving as the Interim Executive Director of the Washington DC VA Medical


Center, appointed March 24, 2025. In the Executive Director role, he oversees the delivery of safe, quality health care to 139, 345 Veterans residing in the District of Columbia and areas of


Maryland and northern Virginia. He also directs operations of the main medical center, six community-based outpatient clinics, and the VA Community Resource and Referral Center as executed


by 3,200 health care, administrative and skilled professionals. Mr. Drexel brings over 14 years of experience in the VA healthcare system, with a background in strategy and operational


excellence. He has held multiple executive leadership roles across VA, including as Associate Director for the Asheville VA Health Care System, where he led over 600 staff across 10


departments and had a key role in improving Best Place to Work scores among administrative services, contributing to the facility's recognition as the top-ranked Best Place to Work in


VHA for consecutive years. His experience within the Veterans Health Administration also includes serving as the Executive Assistant to the Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6) Director


and Deputy Network Director, where he contributed to strategic planning and performance measures across seven medical centers, serving approximately 412,000 Veterans. Earlier in his career,


he held leadership roles such as Acting Associate Director at Hines VA in Illinois and Assistant Medical Center Director for the Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks in Fayetteville,


Arkansas. He began his VA career in Strategic Planning for the Salisbury VA Health Care System in North Carolina, where he played a key role in long- and short-term strategic initiatives,


including the development of two of the largest leased healthcare centers in Kernersville and Charlotte, North Carolina.  A United States Marine Corps Veteran, Mr. Drexel is a results-driven


leader with a focus on transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement. He is certified as a VHA Lean Black Belt and a VHA Coach and Mentor. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in


Business Management from Catawba College with a concentration in Information Systems Management and a Master of Business Administration from Indiana Wesleyan University.
