Veteran Experience Officer 631-261-4400 ext. 2549 Sonja Massey has been officially selected as the Veteran Experience Officer for the Northport VA Medical Center on 10/23/2023. Mrs. Massey
has been serving Veterans at the Northport VAMC since October 2006. She started in the Pharmacy Call Center as a Pharmacy Technician. She then transitioned into the role of Medical Support
Assistant (MSA) under the Business Office. Mrs. Massey served the Veterans as an MSA until September 2015 when she was promoted to Supervisory Medical Support Assistant. During the COVID
pandemic, she worked collectively with various personnel within our Medical Center. Mrs. Massey was very instrumental in training staff to schedule patient appointments in the COVID
vaccination clinic, as well as overseeing Medical Support Assistants throughout the changing phases of the pandemic. In March 2021 Mrs. Massey went on to become the TMS Domain Manager for
Northport under the Learning Systems Department, where she monitored the National and Local learning needs for Northport and CBOC Staff. In June 2022 she was then promoted to Supervisory
Training Specialist for Northport, where she taught Franklin Covey training sessions to Northport staff. Mrs. Massey also oversaw and reconstructed the New Employee Orientation program.
Mrs. Massey’s vast knowledge of the VAMC System Operations, and excellent leadership skills will greatly help support our Veterans in her new role as the Veteran Experience Officer.
