Today, September 5, Sergeant Lawrence E. Butler, a WWII Veteran was presented with a Quilt of Valor (QOV) at the Jackie Walorski VA clinic (JWC). The Quilts of Valor Foundation has been


serving and awarding Veterans with handmade quilts since 2003. Quilts are made in hopes of comforting soldiers who have been impacted by war. Butlers’ family and the JWC staff gathered to


honor Butler and watch the surprise QOV presentation where he was awarded with a certificate from QOV, and a handmade quilt with a patriotic pattern. Erica Broecker, Quilts of Valor


co-leader, presented Butler’s quilt. The quilt was labeled with the Butlers name and says, "Thank you for your service and sacrifice in serving our nation." “I thought I was going


to get my eyes checked, I didn’t expect all this, I will use the quilt, I make my bed every morning,” said Butler. Sergeant Butler, served in the United States Army from 1941-1945 and will


be 105 next month. He was a platoon sergeant and served in North Africa and Italy. He earned 2 WWII Campaign medals his good conduct ribbon. When asked about his secret to longevity he


replied, “walking and exercise”. VA Northern Indiana Health System is honored to serve Butler and wish him a very happy 105th birthday.
