The Oscar G Johnson VA Medical Center added a new cardiac rehab clinic to its roster of services. This new clinic is a major milestone for the medical center and the Veterans it serves. “It
is crucial that we offer this service to our Veterans,” Medical Center Director, John P Shealey said, “It is particularly important because of the potential cardiac problems some Veterans
face after being exposed to toxic environments during their service to our country.” The cardiac rehab clinic is designed to support Veterans who have experienced heart issues through a
combination of exercise, education, and counseling. The goal is to help Veterans improve their overall heart health and reduce their risk of future cardiac events. The clinic is staffed by a
team of experts including advanced practice providers and nurses, with educational sessions supported by dieticians and physical therapists. Together, they work with Veterans to create
personalized treatment plans that address their unique needs and goals. The clinic offers a range of services, including exercise programs, nutrition counseling, stress management, and
smoking cessation support. This wholistic approach is to help Veterans make positive changes to their lifestyle and improve their overall health and wellbeing. The clinic officially opened
its doors on May 25, and the first Veteran to receive treatment was welcomed with open arms. The cardiac rehab team worked closely with the Veteran to create a personalized treatment plan.
This new clinic is a testament to the Oscar G Johnson VA medical center’s commitment to being a leader in rural healthcare. It is a valuable addition to the medical center’s array of
services, and it will undoubtedly make a significant difference in the lives of many Veterans. If you or a loved one are a Veteran who has experienced heart issues, contact your primary care
