Mr. Axel R. Roman has been appointed as the Assistant Director for the VA Caribbean Healthcare System (VACHS) on July 30, 2023. Axel Roman, a healthcare executive with more than 20 years of
experience, will be assuming his new role with a cadre of experiences that suit him as our new Executive Team member. Mr. Roman possesses a bachelor’s degree in science in Occupational
Therapy and a master’s degree in public health, both from the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus. Mr. Roman began his career with the Federal Government as an Occupational
Therapist at the VACHS in June 1990. From March 2002 through June 2007, Mr. Roman served as Operations Manager for the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service; and from June 2007
through December 2019, Mr. Roman served as the Customer Service Manager and Chief of Patient and Community Relations Service. Prior to this new position as Assistant Director, Mr. Roman
served as the Health Systems Specialist for the Office of the Associate Director for Operations of VACHS, providing support integrating the functions of Contracting Service, Emergency
Management, Facility Management Service, Police and Security, Supply Chain, and Prosthetics Services. Please join me welcoming him in this new role. Mr. Roman will oversee the administrative
operations of the CBOC’s in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, Community Care Service, and Telehealth Service.
