The genome of a coral that makes up a major part of the Great Barrier Reef has been sequenced for the first time, Australian scientists have announced. The coral, Acropora millepora, has


complex DNA that may reveal important insights into animal evolution. The research may also help in understanding how coral reefs are built and why they fail when an area is under stress.


This is the first animal genome project to be carried out entirely in Australia and involved a number of universities and institutions. Read more at James Cook University
