The Musée Guimet is devoting an exhibition to artist Toshimasa Kikuchi, through a Carte blanche, from July 7 to October 4, 2021. A fine contemporary art EXHIBITION for all lovers of Asian
art... The MUSÉE GUIMET is offering Japanese artist TOSHIMASA KIKUCHI CARTE BLANCHE from July 7 to October 4, 2021. The artist, born in 1979 in Ehime, on Japan's Shikoku island, is
particularly interested in THE ART OF LACQUER_"at its most innovative_". An art that has led him to take an interest in sculpture, or in the restoration of ancient works, merging
into a whole and expressing himself through_"traditional sculptural methods_". TheEXHIBITION features some twenty sculptural works in JAPANESE LACQUER, as well as MATHEMATICAL
OBJECTS borrowed from theINSTITUT HENRI POINCARRÉ and MAN RAY photographs from the CENTRE POMPIDOU. Having first copied mathematical objects obtained through"SHAKESPEAREAN
EQUATIONS", the artist then creates sculptures inspired by these objects, defying gravity. These works also question_"the notion of continuity between the hard sciences and art in
a universal language: mathematics_". TOSHIMASA KIKUCHI 's seemingly pure forms are inspired by ancient scientific models, which he hijacks by simplifying them to the extreme,
creating_"a mathematical beauty that combines tradition and modernity_". Let's book our ticket to the MUSÉE GUIMET, folks?
