JAYA'S 'FOSTER SON' ARRESTED _ N Sathiya Moorthy _in Madras In a surprise move, the Madras police Wednesday arrested V N Sudhakaran, the disowned foster-son of Tamil Nadu
Chief Minister J Jayalalitha. He has been charged with attempted murder under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code, and relevant provisions of the Arms Act, and Narcotics Act, for allegedly
possessing a revolver and `psychopathic drugs'. Sudhakaran was arrested from his T Nagar residence Wednesday morning, based on a complaint from his former accountant Gopu Sreedhar.
According to the police, Sudhakaran along with two others had attacked Sreedhar at his residence on Tuesday night and damaged vehicles in the vicinity. The police said the accountant had
been sacked earlier for allegedly defrauding Sudhakaran, leading to Tuesday night's attack. Following a complaint by Sreedhar, police raided Sudhakaran's house and recovered the
revolver and drugs. They have also arrested Bhaskaran, another relative of Sasikala Natarajan, the live-in confidante of Jayalalitha. The chief minister said that the law would take its own
course in the case. However, critics of the government see the arrest as one more instance of harassment of those not favourably disposed to the rulers of the day. Back to top
