Summerville rallied to claim a 5-4 win in the third game of its series with West Ashley to set up a showdown with cross-town rival Fort Dorchester this week. “The goal every week is to win

the series,” said Summerville coach Thane Maness. “We lost a one-run game on Wednesday and give credit to West Ashley but we didn’t play great. Then we came back today and fought after going

down early. We kind of scratched and that’s what this club is. We are pitching pretty good most of the time and play pretty good defense most of the time and kind of claw our way in and

find ways to win.” Summerville fell behind by two runs early in the game. Then sophomore Nick Bone had an RBI hit to cut the lead to one. However, Summerville was running out of outs. The

Green Wave loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth and senior shortstop Cody Landis doubled to drive in seniors Cooper Hughie and Chase Lewis for the 5-4 Summerville lead. Senior Louden

Fachko stepped on the hill in relief of senior Ethan Crowe for the top of the seventh and got the first West Ashley batter to ground out and the second to fly out. He surrendered two bases

on balls to put the potential game-winning run on, but struck out the next batter to clinch the win. Junior Brady Coryell had the start on the hill and threw the first four innings before

being relieved by Crowe. Summerville, which won its first game of the series 5-0, improved to 17-6 on the season with a 7-5 mark in 5A Region 8. The Green Wave enters its final region series

of the season against the Patriots tied for second place in the region with Fort Dorchester after it swept its series against Stall. “We’ve battled some injuries and some adversity over the

last couple of weeks but they’ve held it together to put us in a positon to hopefully compete for one of the top four seeds in the Lower State,” Maness said. “Obviously Fort D has had a

great year and I have nothing but respect for what they’ve done so it’s a good thing it will come down to us and them for one of those four spots. I know they are going to be ready to play

and they are a really good baseball team so it should be a really good series.” James Island swept its series with Ashley Ridge last week to clinch the region championship. The Swamp Foxes

fell to 5-7 in the region and entered this week tied for fourth place with West Ashley. Those two teams will take on each other this week. Fort Dorchester will host the first and third games

against Summerville. Ashely Ridge will host the first and third games against West Ashley. For both of those series, Game 1 is scheduled for Monday, April 28, Game 2 for Wednesday, April

30, and Game 3 for Friday, May 2.
