mental health has to do with taking care of your mind and your feelings good Vision kids how are you feeling today we have a phone call let's answer it I wonder who it is it's Dr

Hart a children's therapist hi Dr Hart hi Miss Penny you know a lot of kids feel different emotions when they come here for the first time and part of what makes this a really special

place is that this is a a safe place that children and their families can come to to get help from someone who understands I'd love to show you around yes we would love to come and help

you spread the word about mental health we'll be there as soon as we can see you soon bye come on Kid Vision kids it's time to learn about doctors there are many types of doctors

Mental Health doctors like Dr Hart are also called therapists therapists help people feel better better when they're feeling sad or mad or confused are you ready let's learn about

what a therapist does it's time for a Kion Mission what is mental health well mental health is really the way that we think respond and feel in the world around us and it's just as

critical as our physical health when we're mentally healthy our bodies also feel healthy too you have to take care of your brain which really does so many important things what does a

therapist actually do I like to say that I'm a helper first and foremost just like anything else like learning your ABCs you also have to learn strategies that help you you recognize

the emotions that you might be feeling in your body and figure out ways that we can use some coping skills that might help them feel better in those situations I'd love to see some of

the therapies that you do with children I'd love to show you let's go check it out are you ready to learn about positive mental health yes all right we're going to learn about

different feelings that we can feel so I'm going to bring out my feeling chart and there are so many feelings that we can feel and sometimes you can feel lots of different feelings at

the same time would you like to help me okay so we have feelings that might make us feel RedHot like feeling mad and angry or maybe scared and Afraid and then we s and then there's

feelings that might make us feel blue like feeling sad we can also feel tired tired we might feel happy or excited or calm or proud maybe thankful so we're going to see how we're

feeling today how are you feeling Charlie happy you're feeling happy and you know how I know you're happy even if you're wearing a face mask cuz your eyes kind of go up and

you can see that even through your mask you're smiling how are you feeling Penelope sad you're feeling a little sad what's making you feel sad today because I miss my brother

Julie you miss your brother Julie that's right sometimes when we miss our family members or we're away from them it makes us feel sad Miss Penny how are you feeling today I'm

feeling really excited to learn about mental health this is really exciting well so now we know how we're feeling today should we learn about something else okay we are going to learn a

special way that we can breathe when we're feeling mad or sad or maybe we feel a little bit excited and we want to calm our bodies down so can you show me your hands all right this is

a technique called five finger breathing and when we go up our finger like this we're going to breathe in we're going to go through our nose and then when we go down our finger

we're going to breathe out through our mouth we'll do it again Breathe In Breathe Out breathe in breathe out excellent breathing everybody Breathe In Breathe Out breathe in breathe

out how do we feel good good yes this is great some sometimes we feel overwhelmed by our strong feelings and emotions we can do this breathing exercise and feel more relaxed when we use our

breathing it helps us to feel calm so we're ready to learn are you guys ready to learn some things about positive mental health yes okay everybody I'm going to have you all have

one of my friends all right so now our puppets are going to teach us about ways that we can be good friends because being a good friend is really important not only for making friends but it

also helps us feel really really good about ourselves now that we know how we are feeling and are calmer it's really important to learn how to communicate with our friends and loved

ones Charlie you have Polly the polite parrot he's going to teach us about using kind words so what are some kind words that paully can use with his friends please please that's

right can everybody say please please please thank you thank you let's say it together thank you that's right that's a great other kind word all right and now Penelope you

we have talked about breathing and our five finger breathing our feelings how to be a good friend and how to use our social skills like using kind words and how to share and how to have fun

and how to listen and take turns talking the five people who can help us thank you Dr Hart we really learned a lot today about emotions about moods and particularly about mental health and

the importance of mental health for everyone thank you so much for coming Miss Penny we're so happy to get the word out bye [Music] great job KidVision kids Dr Hart wants us to spread

the word that it's okay to get help to feel good if you need it we learned about identifying our emotions we learned about coping skills and we learned that there are adults that can

help us we also learned a lot of new words today let's go to the Kid Vision classroom and review some of them put on your thinking caps it's time to learn a new word mental health

mental health is the way our minds or brains think respond and feel in the world around us it is as important as the health of our bodies what was that word mental health good job emotions

emotions are the ways we feel when something happens to us for example feeling happy when we dance or shy when we meet someone new what was that word tions good job therapist a therapist is

a person whose job it is to help people and families take care of their mental health what was that word therapist good job coping skills coping skills are things that can help us feel

better when we're having a hard time for example taking deep breaths or using our words to ask for help what was that word cing tools good [Music] job I really enjoyed going to the

therapist we learned that a therapist takes care of our mental health they help us with our emotions and they give us coping skills so that we learn to calm down and be okay with ourselves

one of my favorite Parts was the five finger breathing let's do it together ready hold hold up your hand remember you're going to breathe in when you go up your finger and breathe

out when you go down so let's get started Breathe In Breathe Out Breathe In Breathe Out Breathe In Breathe Out Breathe In Breathe Out breathe in breathe out good job you want to do the

other hand yeah that was really fun let's do it here we go Breathe In Breathe Out Breathe In Breathe Out Breathe In Breathe Out Breathe In Breathe Out breathe in breathe out that made

me feel better how about you you yes good job Kid Vision kids but there's a lot more to learn about doctors we need to learn about our physical health so let's go to a

pediatrician's office and find out are you ready for a k [Music] Mission hi hi good morning good morning I'm Miss Penny and these are the Kid Vision kids and we're here today

have a seat and sign in all right so it's time to sign in would you like to be first yes okay here we go this way they know who's here and they can look up our file so that when

the doctor sees us they know that they have the right person Devon would you like to sign next okay [Music] look at you okay and should we sign together okay so tell me how to spell your

paperwork ready okay okay we're all signed in perfect thank you have a seat and we'll be with you shortly thanks no problem good morning kid Vision kids are you ready to go back oh

look I I think we're ready to go let's go hi kids I'm nurse Leticia and a nurse helps the doctor get you ready for your checkup the first thing that we do is we check your

weight on the scale what does the scale do we it weighs us and then we use the stadiometer to see how tall you are stadiometer so we could see how tall we are that way the next time we come

we can see if we gained weight and if we got taller that's why we take our weight in our measurement to see if we're growing strong are you ready yes yes okay step on up for me

let's see how much you weigh 36 and now let's see how tall you are 40 good so you're 36 lb and you're 40 in tall now let step on up mhm 36.8 you're 36.8 ready

let's see how tall you are 41.25 wow 41 step on up you are 44.8 lb and you are 44.7 wow so look how you're standing you are from smallest to tallest should we see how much I weigh

and how tall I am yes do you think I'm going to be taller or smaller taller you think you going to be tall color than this oh let's see we're not going to really look at the

weight though she's 67 67 you're like bigger than me yes look at that so now we know how tall we are and how much we weigh and the next time we come they'll do the same thing

and they can see if you're growing strong next kids we're going to go into the exam room to get ready for the checkup okay great okay kids now we're we going to start your

physical exam we going to start your checkup a checkup is to see how healthy you are and if you're growing okay I'm going to start with your pulse this is going to check to see how

fast your heart beats okay okay 100 100 beats a minute that is very good good mhm and now for you we're going to check your temperature this is a thermometer okay we're going to

stick it under your Tong 98.9 oh that's good temperature 98 yes and for you we're going to check your blood pressure to see how your blood is going through your arteries okay ready

it's going to be one little hug that's all oh no and you got 100 over 70 that's bad that's good so how are our Kid Vision kids doing they are doing great they are very

healthy wonderful are they ready to see the doctor they are ready to see the doctor all right well hello I'm Dr Packer and I'm a children's doctor and I'm called a

pediatrician so who can say pediatrician pediatri these guys are very smart so let me say hello and hello hello and hello hello very good hellos so first I'm going to use this and this

is called a stethoscope a stethoscope yes and I use this to listen so I use this to listen to your heart to make sure that it's beating right and to listen to your lungs to make sure

that you're breathing right so let's try that right now and I'm going to first listen to your heart and I know it's cold it's very cold it's like ice oh not

that bad and now I'm going to listen to your lungs so sit up nice and big and straight and take a big breath in good again please again and again okay perfect well you have a good

healthy heart and good strong lung so that's perfect next I'm going to use my flashlights to look at your eyes your ears and your nose and this is my eye flashlight and we call

this an opthalmoscope opthalmoscope that's right very good all right so to do this I need you to look right over there while I look at your eyes so keep looking over there and I'm

going to look at at your eyes perfect you have good perfect eyes good now I'm going to use my next flashlight and we call this an odoscope and I use this to look at your ears and your

nose and your mouth so first let's see your ears and this is real easy and soft and look at the other ear now we're going to look at your nose and that's perfect and next

we're going to look at your mouth so I need you to open your mouth nice and big for me big big big and perfect a good healthy Mouse now next this is what I use to test your muscles to

make sure they're good and strong we call this a reflex hammer and see it's soft and we're just going to bang on your muscles for a second we're going to bang right here

like this and we're going to bang over here like this and sometimes we also check up here too so we're going to bang over here like that and over here like that and you have good

strong muscles so show me how strong are your muscles they are it on your perfect okay so everybody's checkup show that you're all real strong and healthy and you did really well

happy dance today bye [Music] put on your thinking caps it's time to learn a new word checkup a checkup is an examination to make sure you are healthy what was that word checkup good

job nurse a nurse is a person who helps doctors care for people what was that word good good job pediatrician a pediatrician is a doctor that cares for babies and children what was that word

p good job stethoscope a stethoscope is a tool doctors use to listen to your heart and your lungs what was that word stethoscope good job hi Kid Vision kids we have two very special guests

with us today Dr Ron Tapper who is an animal doctor which means he's a veterinarian and he brought with him his dog boss hi Miss Penny hi Kid Vision kids I heard you guys were learning

about doctors today we are and I was wondering if you could give boss a wellness checkup so we can compare what a v narian checks on an animal compared to what a pediatrician checks on

children so I'm gonna start okay with just touching touching the animal feeling making sure I don't feel any any lumps or bumps or anything that's not supposed to be there

well that makes sense because if something was wrong he would be reacting to you yep so then I brought my doctor bag filled with my little tools oh we like tools this stethoscope and this is

what we put in our ears so we can listen to their heart and their lungs Hi boss listen to your heart now when we went to the pediatrician they used a stethoscope too to listen to the

children's heart so now we're going to listen to look in his ears okay it's called an odoscope oh an odoscope we learned about odoscope so can you hold his nose for me while I

look in his ears sure so I'm just going to take this and I'm going to look up and to his ears a you're look at your eyes and does he look okay he looks great okay good boss

what do you think boss did you get a good checkup yes is that the basic checkup that's the basic checkup and probably one of the biggest things that kids at home help us out is because

they play with them every day um they know what's normal and what's abnormal as far as the routine like did he eat is he as playful is he able to jump on the the bed like he

usually does and if the kids ever see anything that seems abnormal you should tell their parents and then let the parents decide if they may need to take him to the veterinarian for a

checkup that is a really good idea did you hear that kid Vision kids so you can take care of your animals by just paying attention to their behaviors well thank you so much you're

welcome hooray everyone I'm amazing job I knew we could do it way to stay patient that's a k mission accomplish we did it great job now that we've learned all about doctors

it's time to clean up we had such a great time learning about doctors on this kid vision mission we learned about three different doctors it was awesome thank you for joining us and

we'll see you next time for another kid vision mission [Music] [Music] bye major funding for kid vision mission is brought to you in part by the Children's Services Council of

Broward County supports Kid Vision and public television we are dedicated to enriching children's lives and empowering them to become responsible and productive adults [Music]
