CHENNAI: Manoj Bharathiraja, actor and son of veteran filmmaker Bharathiraja, passed away here on Tuesday due to cardiac arrest. He was 48. Born on 11 September 1976, Manoj made his acting


debut with _Taj Mahal_ (1999), directed by his father, written by Mani Ratnam, and scored by A.R. Rahman. He also ventured into playback singing, lending his voice to the song _Eechi


Elumichi_ from _Taj Mahal_. He went on to act in films such as _Samuthiram_ (2001), _Alli Arjuna_ (2002), _Varushamellam Vasantham_ (2002), _Maha Nadigan_ (2004), _Annakodi_ (2013),


_Champion_ (2019), _Maanaadu_ (2021), and _Viruman_ (2022). He was last seen in the Prime Video series _Snakes and Ladders_ (2024). Before entering the film industry, he studied theatre arts


at the University of South Florida. Beyond acting, Manoj worked as an assistant director to Bharathiraja in _Final Cut of Director_ (2016) and also assisted Shankar in _Enthiran_ (2010) and


Mani Ratnam in _Bombay_ (1995). He made his directorial debut with _Margazhi Thingal_ (2023), which would remain his only film as a director. Manoj is survived by his wife, Nandana, and


their two daughters, Arthika and Mathivadani.
