intensity earthquakes measuring 3.6 to 5.3 on the Richter scale had hit Mizoram’s Champhai district within an hour. According to the officials of the India Meteorological Department, the
first quake of 5.3 magnitude, hit at 5.37 pm followed by tremors of 3.6 and 4.1 magnitudes at 6.16 pm and 6.47 pm respectively. The epicentre of all the three quakes was also along the
India-Myanmar border, about 35 km southwest of Champai, the district headquarters. Mizoram has recorded successive quakes since June 22.
