ABSTRACT THE preparation of thin films of magnetic alloys with specific characteristics is generally acknowledged to be a difficult task, owing to the large number of parameters involved.
One such parameter, that of film thickness, might be expected to have a large effect on magnetic characteristics. The relation between this and coercivity has been studied theoretically by
L. Néel1, for film thicknesses in excess of domain wall thickness. For this condition, small variations in the thickness of the layer give rise to energy changes as domain walls are moved
and lead to the relation _H_ _c_ ∝ _t_ −4/3, where _H_ _c_ is the coercivity and _t_ the average thickness. Tiller and Clark2 have found _H_ _c_ ∝ _t_ −1 experimentally for _t_ varying from
about 250 A. to nearly 2,800 A. Access through your institution Buy or subscribe This is a preview of subscription content, access via your institution ACCESS OPTIONS Access through your
