DURING the last two years we have been using photographic plates (Ilford R2 and New Halftone) for the study of cosmic rays at different altitudes. Both treated and untreated plates have been

used for the purpose. In the present communication is reported the results obtained by keeping for five months untreated New Halftone plates in cardboard containers, vertically on their

long sides, at Darjeeling (Mayapuri Research Station, elevation 2,130 m.) and at Sandakphu (Dak Bungalow, elevation 3,660 m.).
