Nine left commercial free-to air-rivals Seven and Ten behind last night, winning the evening with a main channel share of 18.8%. The channel, which attracted most of its viewers in news and
current affairs, pinching a win over the other networks, with finished with shares of 17.7% and 15.8% respectively. Nine News boosted the channel’s share on Wednesday night Nine’s most
watched program of the evening was its 6pm news bulletin, with 979,000 metro viewers while A Current Affair achieved 906,000. ADVERTISEMENT It managed the result despite its early evening
entertainment, Young Sheldon, trailing slightly behind Ten’s Masterchef Australia and Seven’s House Rules. The show pulled in audiences of 701,000 and 662,000 and 7:30pm and 8pm
respectively. On the multi-channels, new dating show Love Island appeared amongst all the key advertising demographics. Its total audience was 134,000. But the video player measurement
figures continue to climb. For the first episode, on demand average VPM is at 104,000, the second episode’s audience is at 88,000 and for the third episode, 9Now has reported 69,000 on
demand viewers. The result put Nine’s new show just behind popular SBS On Demand program, Handmaid’s Tale. It currently sits in the top four VPM shows of the last seven days. Given the show
is a multi-platform commission, episode one’s total audience is now 540,000, episode two’s audience has climbed to 413,000 nationally and episode three’s audience now sits at 368,000. Ten’s
Masterchef Australia was the most watched non-news program of the evening, with 863,000 metro viewers while Seven’s House Rules captured 714,000 metro viewers. But in the later time slot,
one of the more popular shows on Wednesday, ABC’s Gruen, had a metro audience of 715,000. In the same time slot was Nine’s Britain’s Got Talent, with 496,000 metro viewers. Seven’s Modern
Family, which commenced at 8:45pm and Ten’s Instinct, which ran from 6pm, did not make the top 20, according to OzTAM’s overnight preliminary ratings. Seven’s most popular show was Seven
News, which won the night with 1.087m viewers across five metro cities, while Ten’s was Masterchef Australia. Overall network share went to Seven Network last night, with 27.8% over Nine
Network’s 25.6%.
