Tourists flock to mountain in china – but not for the reason you might think

unlikely location in China is attracting a wave of tourism after a mountainous snap went viral online. Guo Qingshan, from Shanghai, posted a landscape photograph on Xiaohongshu (also known

as Red Note) from his hometown, Yichang, in Hubei province, sparking of frenzy of intrigue. Since uploading the image on Valentine's Day, scores of users of the platform have pointed

out that the mountain perfectly resembles the head of a dog looking out over the the Yangtze River. According to designer Guo, he was oblivious to the incredible likeness at the time – only

realising after his post received 120,000 'likes' within 10 days. "It was so magical and cute," he later admitted. "I felt excited and happy when I discovered

Guo to add: "The puppy's posture is like it's drinking water, or it's looking at some fish. It also looks like it's quietly protecting the Yangtze River."

Article continues below Dog owners have been keen to get a piece of the action themselves, sharing snaps of their pets they believe are similar in appearance to the mountain. Others have

even gone as far as taking their pooch to the destination itself, including Red Note user Yang Yang and her two-year-old poodle, Yang Keyi. "I was really happy to see the

mountain," she penned in a caption. "I always travel with my dog if possible, so Puppy Mountain and my own little dog really match." Local resident Shi Tong spotted Guo's

photo online too, but unlike him was aware of the dog-like appearance. "After I saw the Puppy Mountain photo online, I tried to look up where it is," he said. "And then I

realized that I have been to this place before. I thought it looked like a dog at that time too!" Article continues below Puppy Mountain now appears to be going viral on all other major

social media platforms too. One Instagram user hailed it: "The coolest story today! Can you see it?" A second elaborated: "Looks more like a senior dog with white fur around

his eyes." A third added: "That is truly remarkable!" A fourth said: "I see the dog from [movie] The NeverEnding Story." And a fifth person commented cynically:

"Hope this is real and not another scam like the famous waterfall that was a pipe, or famous stone mountain top that was concrete." Yichang had a population of 3.92 million people

in the census taken in 2022. The city is famous for the Three Gorges, the Three Gorges Dam and the Gezhouba Dam, which are all located in it's Yiling District.
