COMEDIAN TOM HOUGHTON HAS EXPLAINED ON SOCIAL MEDIA HOW HE ENDED UP SWAPPING HIS LIFE IN A MODEST BRIGHTON HOME FOR ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS BUILDINGS IN THE WORLD 14:50, 10 Feb 2025Updated
14:51, 10 Feb 2025 Social media is full of house tour videos, yet none quite capture the intrigue like Tom Houghton's former abode – the Tower of London. The comedian took to TikTok to
explain his recent unusual living situation to his followers. He began by disclosing that his father, General Nick Houghton, the former Chief of Defence Staff, became the Constable of the
Tower in 2016, which eventually led to Tom's unique residence. "At the time he got that [appointment] I was living in Brighton with my comedy group," recounted Tom. "I
left my comedy group and moved to London in order to get more opportunities, but I had to take a financial hit and was left with a dilemma over where to live. I had a choice - either rent a
cupboard in Zone 5 or the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to live rent-free with my dad in the centre, in the great, big historical palace." READ MORE: Homework meant for 6-year-olds
baffles adults – see if you can solve it Tom opted for the latter and set up home in Queen's House [now King's House], his base before, during and after the coronavirus pandemic.
He offered fans a peek inside, noting: "It was completed in 1540 under the reign of Henry VIII - they say he built it for Anne Boleyn, but that's not true, he built it for the
Lieutenant of the Tower at the time." Tom injected a dose of humour into his video tour by showing off the marble head of a "bloke he doesn't know", before guiding
viewers up the stairs to the main house and a prayer room once belonging to Sir Thomas More, who was beheaded for not recognising Henry VIII as the head of the Church of England. Article

photos of previous Lieutenants, including the Duke of Wellington. In another clip filmed during lockdown, meanwhile Tom quipped about "isolating like a royal" while showing off a
balcony said to have been used by Elizabeth I when she was also residing in the Tower, suspected of treason. One TikTok user expressed their curiosity, writing: "I went to the Tower of
London two days ago, and I genuinely wondered what that house was like inside, so thanks for this video!" Another envious viewer commented: "You are so lucky. That would be an
amazing place to live, would you be able to do any ghost hunts, that must be rife with paranormal activity?" A third recounted a personal connection: "We had friends that lived in
the Tower of London, my friend's hubby was a Yeoman Warder. Amazing place, so much history, and yes from not believing in ghosts - living there changed that." While a fourth chimed
in: "I don't feel you need to justify it, anybody would make that decision. Best of luck with the comedy career, other than that really enjoy your content." Article continues
below The Tower of London stands as a historic Royal fortress in central London and boasts being a top sight for visitors. People still live inside the Tower, including Yeoman Wardens,
their families, the Resident Governor, and a garrison of soldiers. It's so well-equipped that it even has an on-site doctor, chaplain, and its very own pub, as noted on the Tower's
official website. Meanwhile, Tom is gearing up for a European tour in April before making his return trip to the UK to entertain audiences across dozens of towns and cities from September
through November.
