Original release date: October 12, 2018 Director: Mike Flanagan Writers: Mike Flanagan and Jeff Howard Rating: 10/10 I officially love this show, and I regret that it took me this long to
get around to seeing it. The last episode was great, and in some ways, this was even more impressive. At the end of the fifth episode, there was some really great camerawork as Nell returned
to Hell House, with some great in-camera tricks. This entire episode is presented in just a few shots, as the camera moves all around the characters, and there are even more impressive
tricks. In the present, the family all arrives and prepares on the night before Nell’s funeral. The characters are all very strong, and they all have their own ways of dealing with this
tragedy, in ways that connect to their past. In the past, at Hill House, during a storm, Nell goes missing for a spell after everyone awakes from the chandelier breaking. As the two parents
go around looking for her, they encounter some of the creepiest stuff you’ll ever see in television. It starts from Olivia’s point of view, as she encounters a ghost boy on a wheelchair. And
then it follows Hugh, as he pursues an apparent apparition of his wife, which is really unsettling. In the present, some weird stuff happens involving Nell’s corpse, Shirley gets pissed at
Steven over the book again, and Steven and his father have a particularly lengthy fight. Hugh understands that it was the house that killed both his wife and his daughter, but he also
understands that Steven will never believe that. In addition to the horror working very well in the past, the drama excels in the present. It ends on a remarkably touching moment, actually,
and the filmmaking from director Mike Flanagan is impressive throughout.
