What if the Premier league was not 38 games but 19 home and away legs. Would it make any difference? Let’s start by looking at a few games close to peoples hearts. THE DERBIES Instead of

Liverpool getting six points for 2–0 and 4–1 wins against Everton in the Merseyside derby, they would only get three points for their 6–1 aggregate win. The same can be said for the

Manchester derby were again 2–0 and 4–1 wins for Manchester City turn into a 6–1 aggregate over Manchester United. The North London derby is a much more interesting result. Instead of the

teams splitting three points each, Tottenham now takes a 4–3 win and all three points!! Arsenal despite winning 3–1 at home get nothing! — — — Now let’s look at how the Alternative League

would finish… THE CHAMPIONS Liverpool only lost two games all season against Leicester (0–1) and West Ham (2–3). But how did they fair in the other leg? Well against Leicester they won 2–0,

giving them a 2–1 aggregate win. Against West Ham they won 1–0 giving them a 3–3 aggregate result and a point for the draw. Manchester City lost three games in the regular season. Twice

against Tottenham — so thats easy Spurs get all three points. Their other loss was against Crystal Palace (0–2) and in the reverse fixture they could only manage a draw, so again Man City

get 0 points. Who does that affect the table….. Liverpool are champions!!! RACE FOR EUROPE The Champions League spots remain the same. But the race for the other European spots is probably

not what you were expecting… The biggest winners in the two legged alternate table are definitely Aston Villa. Thanks mostly to their away wins matching up to some gritty home draws. They

jump a massive eight places compared to the real table and are rewarded with a spot in the Europa League. Arsenal are safe in 5th and also get a Europa League spot. The final European place

is taken by Leicester City who move up one space and grab the Europa Conference spot. The biggest losers are Manchester United — who drop 6 places compared to the real table. This is mainly

due to a couple of games like their 0–4 defeat to Brighton and their 1–3 defeat to Arsenal, where they won the reverse fixtures 2–0 and 3–2 respectively, but ended up losing both on

aggregate and collecting zero points. RELEGATION BATTLE The alternate home and away league doesn’t help any of the bottom three. Wolves were dragged into the mix instead of pushing for a

European place as they did in the regular table. TABLE IN FULL So what do you think? Should the Premier League swap to home and away legs?
