Stocks were on track to close lower as of Wednesday's final hour of trading, dragged down by a poorly received $16 billion auction of 20-year Treasury bonds that raised worries about
the attractiveness of U.S. government debt. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 789 points, or 1.9%, at around 41,888. It was heading for its biggest percentage drop in about a month.
The S&P 500 fell 89 points, or 1.5%, to around 5,852. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 249 points, or 1.3%, to near 18,894.
