Popular exchange-traded funds focused on the U.S. bond market were rising Friday afternoon but remained down for the week after Treasury yields climbed amid worries over the U.S. fiscal
deficit. The Vanguard Total Bond Market ETF and iShares Core U.S. Aggregate Bond ETF were each up around 0.2% in afternoon trading. Shares of both funds were on course for a weekly drop of
0.4%, according to FactSet data, at last check. Interest rates in the bond market rose this week. For example, the yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose 7.1 basis points to 4.508%, its
biggest weekly climb since April 11 based on 3 p.m. Eastern time levels, according to Dow Jones Market Data.
