DRIVERS NO LONGER HAVE TO STOP AND PAY WHEN THEY EXIT THE CAR PARK AT MANCHESTER AIRPORT 11:16, 22 May 2025 Barrier-free car parks are now in action across all terminals at Manchester
Airport which has "improved traffic flow", "removed tailgating" and resulted in "safer roads and improved customer experience". Back in February 2025,
Manchester Airport announced that it was set to launch a new barrier-free system for vehicles dropping off and picking up passengers, which would allow for motorists to pass through “more
smoothly”. Instead of paying at a barrier for using the car park or drop-off zone, drivers can simply leave the car park and pay remotely . Now fully competed and the new system live, the
old barriers have now been removed and drivers can now leave the car park without needing to stop on exit, which helps to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow. The new barrier-free
system works by using an automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) system, similar to those used in London Stansted and East Midlands Airports as well as other familiar settings like bridges
and tunnels. Article continues below Cameras identify cars by their registration number and automatically record who has used the pick-up or drop-off area. Rather than stopping at a barrier
and paying as they leave the area, drivers simply leave and then pay the charge by midnight the following day. They can do this over the phone or online. There has been no change to the
existing charges and no payments will be made when exiting the area. MAG Chief Information Officer, Nick Woods said in a new statement: “APCOA’s existing experience in the airport sector and
the excellent collaboration between the teams has led to the successful roll out of the new barrier-less systems across our three airports.” Kim Challis, APCOA’s Regional Managing Director
(UK and Ireland), said: “We are delighted to have worked with the MAG team to deliver this major improvement programme across their estate. Article continues below "It’s been a complex
mobilisation, but APCOA has extensive experience in the airport sector and our digital solutions are already delivering improved customer service at all three airports.” People can make an
