I’m glad Trent Alexander-Arnold got a good reception on Sunday. It was good. Let’s not let him leave on a sour note. You never know, one day he might come back. It might not work for him in
Madrid. He might come back to Liverpool. He might see his contract out and come back to Liverpool. The door is left open to him now. He is still relatively young in football-terms at 26,
even though he started early. You should never shut a door in someone’s face, especially when he’s a Scouser. Let him go. He’s going to a great club, it’ll be a great experience. Let’s see
what happens. But I wouldn’t say it’s the end of his Liverpool career, by far. You never know. EARLY TRANSFERS SEND OUT PERFECT STATEMENT It won’t just be Trent who leaves Liverpool this
summer. When your time is up at Liverpool, your time is up. I’ve seen that first-hand. It can be quite cynical. I got 63 goals in 104 games, won the Golden Boot one year and was one off it
the next I think - and I got shipped off. That’s a club the size of Liverpool for you. There is no sentiment at times. If Arne Slot wants to bring in players that suit his preferred game,
and other players at the club don’t suit his game, then deals have got to be done. It’s got to be right. The owners get stick but they have run the club really well. They’ll bring in a lot
of money from the players they’ll sell. We don’t know who will go yet but we’ll all have our suspicions. And it’ll help pay for the beginning of Arne’s actual team. Maybe a third of Jurgen
Klopp’s leftover team will move on and Arne will have a third of his own team in their place. Then it’ll be two-thirds the year after, that’s the way it transpires in football. We’re already
making our moves for players coming in. It looks like we’re getting Frimpong and Wirtz, and they want Kerkez too. That’s business, that’s how you do it. They know the players who could be
on their way out now, more or less, and who they’ll want to bring in. In some cases it might even already be done. They’ll know what the values are and the ones they can afford to bring in.
They need to just go and get them. Don’t dawdle. So Liverpool have been spot on, in case someone else comes in for who they want. If the targets are money-orientated they might go to other
clubs, but those other clubs haven’t got what Liverpool’s got at the moment. There aren’t many clubs you’d want to go to over Liverpool at this moment in time. They’ve just won the hardest
league in world football. We should have done better in the cups, but we will do better in the cups next year. That’s a fact! Whether we can retain the league, that’s another question.
Because it’s always harder in the second year. Fair play to Man City, they’ve done it in recent years. But if they can do it, we can do it. And by seemingly make these early moves in the
transfer market, we’re making the best start to the summer. ANFIELD DELIVERED AGAIN Crystal Palace defended brilliantly against us on Sunday. I wouldn’t say teams have us boxed off, but they
know how to play against us now more so than they did at the start of the season. They were excellent and made it difficult for us. The goalkeeper pulled off three great saves, but we got
what we deserved. Who else but Mohamed Salah? I’m just glad that our Anfield fortress since the Forest loss didn’t get broken because psychologically, that can damage you. It can give other
teams belief that they can come to Anfield and beat us. It was a decent enough game and all’s well that ends well. I’d have taken a draw with 10 men, big time. But the response from the
players and the crowd after going down to 10 men, yet again, like they’ve done before. The 12th man became the 11th man and they got us over the line to make sure we didn’t lose. The
reaction of the crowd in those final 10 minutes was absolutely brilliant.
