A road closure at Fosse Park has caused "tempers to flare" as drivers were left stuck in "gridlocked traffic" for "over 40 minutes", a motorist has said. The

man told LeicestershireLive that he witnessed "chaos" on the site last night (Thursday, May 29) when he, "along with countless other motorists", was snared in tailbacks.

The Leicestershire resident, who did not want to be named, said he wanted to "express [his] deep concern and frustration" regarding the "severe travel disruption" being

caused at Fosse Park South by the closure, which is required by Severn Trent Water. He claimed there was "little to no prior warning upon entering the area" that the road was

closed, therefore not giving motorists a chance to avoid it. The man said that vehicles entering Fosse Park South were met with a "bottleneck that led to a complete dead end, resulting

in chaos". He said: "Tempers flared, and I witnessed drivers getting out of their cars onto Soar Valley Way to try and stop oncoming traffic, and arguing in sheer

frustration." READ MORE:Watchdog claims Leicestershire prison is 'crumbling' and has 'inadequate healthcare' The resident said the scene was "distressing and

dangerous", and that he understood that Leicestershire Police were called about the situation. He said: "Queuing traffic built up rapidly around the entrance to Fosse Park South,

worsening the situation by the minute. Despite the obvious disruption, signage and advance warnings were either insufficient or non-existent, leaving many drivers completely unaware of the

impending chaos until it was too late." In response, a Severn Trent spokesperson said: "We are using some tankers to support the ongoing repair of a burst pipe in the area where we

need to access a site on [Fosse Park]. There are tankers moving around and they need a lot of space, so to keep everyone safe while we’re doing this there is a temporary closure in place on

Fosse Park Avenue. A signed diversion is in place to guide customers around the closed section." The spokesperson said the company was "actively engaging with local residents, the

local council and highways teams" to keep them informed and minimise disruption. They added: "We apologise for the inconvenience while our teams are working hard to get the repair

made and everything back to normal. However, we would please ask that everyone takes notice of the road closure signs, which are there for everyone’s safety.” Severn Trent confirmed to

LeicestershireLive that the closure is between the turning from Everard Way and the roundabout by Fosse Park McDonalds. It also said additional signage had been installed in the area. A

spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said the force received a call about heavy traffic in the area yesterday, but that it did not attend as there was no policing need to do so. Fosse Park

said Severn Trent Water was repairing a burst pipe on Wembley Road, which had led to road closures at Wembley Road junction and other areas (including Fosse Avenue) while the essential

works took place. They also said that work has now been completed, and the road has now fully reopened. We are now bringing you the latest updates on WhatsApp first
