The Walton twins, Emily and Amy, who initially brought the character of Bethany Platt to life in Coronation Street, are barely recognisable 17 years after leaving the show. The duo first
introduced Bethany to viewers of the ITV soap in 2000, sharing scenes with Tina O'Brien, who plays Sarah Platt, until 2007. After a seven-year break, actress Lucy Fallon took over the
role in March 2015 and has since played a key role in establishing Bethany as a mainstay on the cobbles through her involvement in some of the soap's most harrowing storylines. Bethany
left the cobbles in 2020 to pursue a career in journalism in London, but fans were delighted when Lucy returned to reprise the role, making her comeback in the soap's New Year's
Eve episode in 2024. While Lucy has had some significant storylines as Bethany, the twins were also part of one of the soap's most memorable plots when Bethany's grandmother, Gail
Platt, married serial killer Richard Hillman. The marriage ended disastrously when Hillman attempted to murder Gail and her family by driving them into a canal. Fortunately, he was
unsuccessful, but by 2007, the twins had made their final appearance on the cobbles when their on-screen mother Sarah relocated to Italy with Bethany. However, when the character returned
eight years later, Lucy was recast as the teenager. > Lancashire-born twins Emily and Amy are barely recognisable 18 years after their departure from Weatherfield. The pair have s. The
twins bid adieu to the glitz and glamour of showbiz, instead opting for careers in sport. In their final year at school, in 2016, they competed at the British Trampoline finals in London.
Subsequently, Amy was chosen to represent Great Britain at the European Championships the following year. While the twins were perfecting their trampolining skills, the role of Bethany was
recast. However, Lucy Fallon wasn't the first choice for the part, with Katie Redford initially offered the role. Controversy arose when it was revealed that Katie had misrepresented
her age, claiming to be 19 when she was actually 25. Upon uncovering the truth, the bosses promptly removed Katie from the role before she could begin filming. Lucy was then offered the
opportunity, which she grabbed with both hands, and the rest is soap history. CORONATION STREET BROADCASTS MONDAY, WEDNESDAY AND FRIDAY AT 8PM ON ITV1 AND ITVX.
