MOUNTAIN LION SHOT: A story in the July 2 LATExtra section about the Santa Monica Police Department’s consideration of new wildlife procedures said police officers and firefighters tried to
subdue a mountain lion with tranquilizing darts after the animal entered Santa Monica on May 22. It was a California Department of Fish and Game captain who fired the tranquilizing darts.
After the lion became aggressive and tried to flee, a police officer shot and killed the lion. A story about the incident in the May 23 LATExtra section also should have clarified who fired
darts. SWIMMING: An article in the June 28 Sports section identified both Breeja Larson and Missy Franklin as the winner of the 100 breaststroke at the U.S. Olympic trials. Larson won the
100 breaststroke; Franklin won the 100 backstroke. ARTURO TOSCANINI: A review in the July 1 Arts & Books section of a CD box set of Arturo Toscanini recordings said that he conducted the
world premiere of Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 7. Toscanini conducted the U.S. premiere, but Samuil Samosud conducted the world premiere in the Soviet Union. KIDS CROSSWORD: In the
