De’Anthony Thomas has gone from youth football legend to City Section player of the year for Crenshaw High. Thomas was chosen as the top player in Los Angeles high school football on Tuesday

by a panel of sportswriters. “It’s about time,” Crenshaw Coach Robert Garrett said. “He deserves it.” Thomas led Crenshaw to its second consecutive City Section Division I championship

Saturday, rushing for 137 yards and one touchdown and intercepting two passes and scoring another touchdown in a 45-7 victory over Carson. Last season, he helped Crenshaw to a 14-1 record

and an appearance in the CIF state championship Open Division bowl game. Thomas has committed to USC, where he said he wants to play running back after earlier giving long consideration to

playing defensive back. Regardless of what he does, his impact at Crenshaw will be tough to duplicate. “He’s the best in the land,” Garrett said. Thomas will now get ready for track season,

where his speed makes him one of the top sprinters in the state. Seven Crenshaw players received first-team All-City recognition. [email protected]_ MORE TO READ
