An alleged drunk driver remained in critical condition Wednesday after a car accident on the Ventura Freeway left her seriously injured. Karen Lynn Crandell, 33, of Ventura was driving north
at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at speeds of up to 80 mph in the left lane when her car hit the center divider near Johnson Drive and began to fishtail, California Highway Patrol officials said. The
car slid on top of the four-foot divider, then overturned several times. It landed on its left side, officials said. Crandell, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected and thrown 10
feet. After paramedics arrived, she was taken to Ventura County Medical Center, where she underwent surgery, police said. She was later arrested at the hospital on suspicion of driving under
the influence, according to the CHP. Hospital officials would not release additional information about Crandell’s prognosis Wednesday. MORE TO READ
