City celebrates another 'first' on new year's eve

Special activities for children will dominate the seventh annual “First Night Fullerton” celebration on New Year’s Eve. The family-oriented party will take place on downtown streets from 7


p.m. to midnight, when a fireworks show will light up the sky. Thousands are expected; more than 100 events, including tours of the Fullerton Museum Center, carnival rides and karaoke, are


planned. Mexican folkloric dancers, clowns, blues bands, orchestras, a comedian and a hypnotist also will perform. The concept for “First Night” was born in Boston in 1976. That city was


host to the first “First” party as an effort to broaden public appreciation of the visual and performing arts while offering an alternative to traditional New Year’s Eve celebrations that


feature alcohol. Admission is $12 for adults and $8 for children 12 or younger. Most of the activities will be located between Harbor Boulevard and Lemon Street and Whiting and Commonwealth
