Novice and wannabe pilots can learn the essentials about flying before committing to flying lessons through an eight-week course in the Pierce College Extension Program. The course teaches

basic aerodynamics, airplane systems, navigation, flight planning, radio communication and an overview of flying techniques, the first step for people contemplating lessons. The lessons in

the course also satisfy the requirements for the FAA’s private pilots written exam. Instructor Bosco Pereira will lead the classes once a week from 7 to 10 p.m., beginning Monday. Pereira,

general manager of a computerized FAA testing center in Santa Monica, has more than 19 years’ flying experience. The classes are taught using videos and lectures, as well as computerized

simulation. Registration is $99, plus $65 for classroom materials. For information, call (818) 719-6425.
